Certificate IV in Access Technology

The course provides a pathway for people with vision impairment who use assistive technology skills to complete workspace activities. It develops knowledge and skills in taking control of personal navigation and safety in the workspace. It develops knowledge and skills in the use of inbuilt accessibility features in the assistive technology used. It develops the ability to select and install technology equipment. In addition, the course develops general work-related knowledge and skills in establishing a personal budget, in applying for jobs and undertaking job interviews In working with diverse people Depending on electives chosen, the course develops knowledge and skills in using computational thinking in the workspace, using braille to increase workspace efficiency Designing and creating 3D models.

Whilst there are other VET courses that prepare people for employment, this course incorporates the blind specific expanded core curriculum skills to provide people who are blind or vision impaired, with the knowledge and skills to help them learn what their sighted peers gain incidentally. This need is reflected in the current low employment rate for people who are blind or have low vision.
