Vocational outcomes This course provides the skills and knowledge for individuals to work in body piercing and tattoo studios, clinics, parlours, salons and shops. Typical job titles used in industry for those individuals who provide body piercing and tattooing services include * body artist * body piercing practitioner * body piercing artist * body piercer * piercer * specialist body piercer This course provides a set of targeted specialist technical skills for those working in the above jobs to

* comply with infection control regulations for skin penetration services * maintain infection prevention for skin penetration services before, during and after client service * develop knowledge of body piercing and tattooing products and services * consult with and advise clients on jewellery and piercing sites Recommend products and services suited to client needs * consult with and advise clients on tattoo designs, colours and body placement * identify contraindications to body piercing and tattooing and provide client advice * advise clients on risk factors for body piercing and tattooing * select, prepare and use body piercing equipment and techniques * provide a range of complex body piercings including those for oral sites, the nose, ear cartilage, navel and nipples

Provide micro dermal implants * select and prepare tattooing equipment * provide client self-care advice for post service effects. Employment classification This course provides skills and knowledge to work as a body piercer or tattooist. Those occupations are identified as specialisations within the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) for Body Artists, 451814. ANZSCO identifies a body artist as a person who Decorates, adorns or modifies the human body either permanently or temporarily by using a range of techniques such as tattooing by inserting ink under layers of skin, painting or dyeing the skin Piercing by implanting jewellery and other bio-compatible material in or under the skin

And modification by cutting, branding, manipulating, stretching and scarring to change the shape of or create patterns in the skin, using scalpel, heat and restraining techniques.
