About this qualification
The course provides learners with the specialist skills and knowledge required to perform the following duties and functions whilst working in support of Foundation to Year 6 schools that are either located within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities or schools with a population of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
Skills and knowledge covered includes:
* Supporting in the classroom, in the playground and on excursions;
* preparing culturally focused learning activities in accordance with the cross-cultural priorities of the Australian Foundation to Year 6 Curriculum;
* demonstrating, supervising and participating in activities aligned to the enhancement of the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander children;
* assisting children with intellectual, physical and behavioural difficulties with their academic studies;
* preparing and facilitating learning aids, operating audio-visual equipment, issuing learning materials and related administrative duties.
