Diploma of Forensic Identification

This course is designed to provide specialisations in the field of forensic identification sciences for biometrics reviewers, document examiners and facial image examiners. Each specialisation provides learners with the skills and knowledge to analyse, evaluate, research and report on specialist forensic evidence for identification of persons or evidence of interest using established legal and workplace frameworks. - The Biometrics stream provides the skills and knowledge to review and verify biometric technologies and use comparison techniques to establish and authenticate a person’s identity and report on the examinations. - The Document Examination stream provides the skills and knowledge to receive, analyse, plan and undertake comparison work relating to known and questioned documents and report on the examinations.

- The Facial stream provides the skills and knowledge to compare facial images to assist in the establishment of identity and individuals with multiple identities and report on the examinations. This course provides a pathway for graduates to advance their technical skills in forensic identification sciences and to represent their organisation as specialists in their chosen field.

In January 2025, the National VET Regulator amended the course title to remove the term, “(insert stream)” to align to national data reporting requirements. The course structure was not amended. The streams of specialisation remain unchanged in the course structure. The completed stream is to be identified on testamurs below the qualification code and title as per the requirements of the AQF.
