About this qualification
To develop the knowledge and skills required by dentists to provide a range of orthodontic services to child, adolescent and adult patients private practices. This includes diagnosis of simple and complex orthodontic malocclusions, preparation of treatment plans, fitting and adjustment of fixed and removable orthodontic appliances to resolve orthodontic malocclusions. Graduates of this course are required to practice within the scope of their dental registration as defined by the Dental Board of Australia and AHPRA’s Guidelines for Scope of Practice relevant to the content of this course. The course outcomes do not result in recognition or registration as a Dental Specialist such as an Orthodontist, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon.
Patients whose treatment needs fall outside the scope of practice of a learner or graduate will be referred to appropriate practitioners for specialist care.
