Course in Initial Response to a Mental Health Crisis

This course is designed to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge to identify and respond to mental health crisis situations in the workplace. It focuses on recognising early warning signs of mental health challenges, understanding contributing psychosocial hazards Taking appropriate action in line with work health and safety (WHS) obligations and organisational procedures. Participants will learn to observe behavioural indicators, assess risks to self and others, and apply effective communication strategies to support individuals in distress. The course also covers escalation pathways, referral processes, and the legal and ethical responsibilities associated with managing psychosocial risks in the workplace.

The course is applicable across a broad range of industries and is particularly relevant to individuals in supervisory, management, human resources, health and safety, or wellbeing roles. It aims to support the creation of safe, inclusive Mentally healthy work environments by enabling participants to confidently initiate an appropriate initial response and contribute to broader organisational mental health support strategies.
