About this qualification
This course is designed to provide learners with the skills and knowledge to safely conduct aerial ignition operations using Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) in support of prescribed burning and wildfire suppression activities. The course addresses regulatory compliance, operational planning, risk management, and the practical use of aerial ignition equipment in fireground environments. Graduates will be able to: • Interpret and apply Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) regulations, fire management procedures Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) requirements for RPAS aerial ignition • Conduct pre-operational planning, including burn objectives, airspace assessments Hazard identification • Set up, operate
Maintain RPAS aerial ignition systems in accordance with manufacturer and agency procedures • Coordinate ignition activities with ground crews and supervisors, maintaining communication and situational awareness • Respond to changes in environmental or operational conditions and implement emergency procedures as required • Complete post-operational shutdown, maintenance Reporting in line with legislative and organisational protocols
