About this qualification

The Certificate IV in Talmudic Studies focuses on the development of advanced skills in the study, interpretation and application of Talmud and Jewish Law beyond the secondary school level. Students develop the ability to analyse complex Aramaic, Hebrew and Yiddish texts, apply recognised Talmudic reasoning methods, and understand the foundations of halachic decision making. Achievement of the qualification prepares graduates for a range of communal, educational and religious roles, including teaching, youth leadership, outreach, chaplaincy and other functionary positions. This also provides an essential foundation for students intending to pursue higher level Talmudic or rabbinic studies.

Through intensive supervised study and traditional chavrusa learning, students develop strong analytical, textual and problem-solving skills, enabling them to continue advanced Jewish studies or contribute meaningfully within Jewish community settings. While the occupation outcomes of this course align to the occupation description for ANZSCO code 272211 Minister of Religion on the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) website, the AQF level of the qualification does not align to the Skill Level (1) assigned to this occupation by the ABS.
