Course in Dangerous Goods Road Transport Emergency Recovery Operations

This course provides specialised training for company emergency responders involved in road transport incidents involving bulk dangerous goods, including petroleum products and commonly transported industrial chemicals (excluding Class 1 Explosives, Class 6 Infectious Substances and Class 7 Radioactive Materials).

The course is designed to develop the skills and knowledge required to plan, coordinate and implement company-led product recovery and environmental protection activities at road transport emergency incidents, in cooperation with public emergency services.

Graduates of this course will be able to:

• identify and assess hazards and risks associated with relevant dangerous goods • interpret and apply transport emergency response plans (TERPs) • plan and coordinate a company’s initial response and recovery actions • provide technical advice to emergency services regarding tanker design, product characteristics and associated hazards • safely operate recovery and spill response equipment to contain, transfer and recover product • implement environmental protection and site clean-up measures • apply judgement and problem-solving skills in unpredictable emergency situations • operate within established Australian inter-agency emergency management arrangements.

This course is intended to support company emergency response personnel, advisers and team leaders and does not replace the role of public emergency response agencies.
