About this qualification
This course is intended to provide graduates with a range of skills and knowledge to perform the following functions associated with the provision of lactation and or breastfeeding support by health professionals and or health workers.
Graduates will be able to: • Maintain compliance with legal and ethical standards applying to the provision of lactation and breastfeeding support • Communicate effectively with clients in a range of cultural contexts • Take lactation histories and assess the mother-infant breastfeeding dyad • Advise clients on breastfeeding, the use of breastmilk substitutes in accordance with international and national guidelines and the introduction of complementary feeding • Counsel clients on the management of breastfeeding situations and problems • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support breastfeeding clients with medical and pharmacological issues • Critically evaluate breastfeeding research and apply outcomes to professional practice • Support infant and young child feeding in emergency situations
This course supersedes and is equivalent to 10960NAT Diploma of Breastfeeding Management.
