Successful completion of this course provides graduates with the skills and knowledge to design and develop products and product ranges from client brief in order to produce a product model, prototype or proof of concept of the design. This includes the ability to:
* use drawings, 3D models and computer-aided design to express ideas and communicate concepts
* articulate, present and debate ideas with team, management and/or clients
* establish and refine design briefs for products
* develop innovative design solutions
* analyse and research consumer behaviour and markets
* use 3D printing in product design
* collaborate with others and plan the design process
* apply work health and safety (WHS) requirements to product design
* meet deadlines and work within budgets.
Graduates of this course may seek employment in entry-level product design roles as part of a small or large design companies or as an independent designer. As a product designer, individuals may work as part of design teams in a consultancy environment or for manufacturing organisations. Many product designers also take on freelance work.
22622VIC Diploma of Product Design supersedes and is equivalent to 22446VIC Diploma of Product Design.
