About this qualification

Begin your journey to becoming a doctor with the six year Bachelor of Clinical Sciences/Doctor of Medicine double degree, designed for motivated school leavers who want early, integrated clinical experience. Build a strong foundation in the basic sciences, develop practical skills through laboratory and simulated learning, and benefit from early patient contact. Learn in diverse hospital and community settings across Adelaide, regional South Australia, western Victoria and the Northern Territory. You'll grow as a compassionate, capable future doctor with a strong understanding of medical research, professional responsibility, teamwork and the role of medicine in community health. The Flinders University medical program is accredited with the Australian Medical Council.

This double degree is only available to school leavers - i.e. applicants who are competing for entry on the basis of performance in SACE Stage 2 studies or the International Baccalaureate or the interstate/overseas equivalent. Applicants with an academic record of study at higher education level (including Bachelor degrees from TAFE or RTOs) are not eligible to apply. This includes applicants who have enrolled in a higher education level program at an Australian/overseas university, or equivalent. Applicants who have completed higher education subjects as part of SACE (or equivalent) are eligible to apply.

Applicants must have registered to sit the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT). Only UCAT scores from test sittings held between July-August 2026 will be considered. Applicants will be asked to enter their UCAT identification number when they lodge their SATAC application.

Applicants who have completed some study at higher education level and have an academic record of study should consider applying for the Doctor of Medicine (MD) once they complete their undergraduate degree.

There is a similar pathway leading to a Flinders MD offered in Darwin. Flinders, in conjunction with Charles Darwin University, offers a Bachelor of Clinical Sciences which leads into the Flinders Medical program, taught in Darwin - see SATAC code 104661.

Your career

The double degree prepares graduates to take up roles as paid hospital interns, after which they are qualified for medical registration in Australia, with the potential to follow a full range of medical specialities in their subsequent training.

Equal Consideration

Equal consideration is a central principle of the admissions process. Equal consideration means that all applicants who have the same selection rank for a course (or a subquota within a course) are treated equally i.e. either all or none will be entitled to an offer, provided application deadlines and other application requirements are met by the set deadline.

If you lodge your application by the relevant closing date and comply with all the application requirements, including having all grades/results by the required deadline, you will be guaranteed equal consideration in the selection process. If however, you lodge a late application or do not comply with all the application requirements, including having all grades/results by the required deadline, you will not be guaranteed equal consideration.

Applicants who have applied on time but shuffle this preference after the Change of Preference deadline will not be guaranteed equal consideration. Applicants who have applied on time will be required to have all pending or missing grades and/or adjustment factors finalised no later than 31 December 2026 to be guaranteed equal consideration.

Applicants are advised that should they receive an offer for a place in this degree, they will be required to enrol in topics by the enrolment deadline stated in the letter of offer from SATAC. If they do not enrol via the Flinders University Student System by the specified date and maintain enrolment, their offer in the degree will be forfeit. Applicants who receive an offer for a place in this degree should also note that if they subsequently receive an offer to a higher preference, their offer will be deemed superseded and will be forfeited.
