Interior environments shape how we move through our lives, how we live, work, play and learn. This course encourages you to develop the skills and vision needed to design environments that work. You are empowered to integrate your creativity with critical thinking and technical skills, generating innovative and functional solutions to live design challenges across commercial, public and domestic spaces. Through your studies, you will become a practitioner who responds with confidence and insight to the behavioural, cultural, economic, technological, environmental and aesthetic issues that shape the spaces of our lives. With an emphasis on project-based work, problem-solving and collaborative design studios, this course supports you to create a professional portfolio.

You will be taught by experts, with opportunities to receive professional feedback on design work. In your final year you will work in a supportive, student-led agency to meet real world design briefs. If you choose, your learning can be complemented by a grounding in social media use and marketing, positioning you to flourish in our increasingly digital world. These opportunities build the foundation for a successful and high impact career in design and architectural practices, film and television set design, event planning and exhibition curation.

Offered in partnership with TAFE SA, this industry-focused degree combines practical skills with theoretical knowledge for an excellent outcome. Students will be required to enrol in the Diploma of Interior Design TAFE SA award concurrently with Flinders University topics.

Your career

Interior designers can be self-employed or work in interior design, architectural and engineering practices. Graduates also find opportunities in in galleries, retail environments, film, stage and television productions. Potential occupations include Interior designer, set designer, visual merchandiser and curator.
