This four-year Laboratory Medicine degree is an exciting specialisation that builds on the Bachelor of Medical Science degree and covers areas such as haematology and transfusion science, microbiology, genetics, immunology, virology, biochemistry, molecular biology and more. It includes a one-year of full time Professional Practice component completed in a regional area in the final year of the degree. Placements will be available in Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Port Augusta, Port Pirie, Wallaroo, Gawler, Berri, Murray Bridge, Victor Harbor and Mount Gambier. This degree has been accredited by the Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists (AIMS) and meets requirements as specified in the SA Health Allied Health Professional Credentials, including Access Appointments Policy Directive, for the SA Pathology credentialing process.
The Bachelor of Medical Science (Laboratory Medicine) (Regional Placement) has been designed to produce graduates who as medical scientists are knowledgeable specialists in a major area of science and possess well-developed practical laboratory skills and abilities to liaise with other groups of scientists and professional bodies located in regional areas.
Applicants should note that Bachelor of Medical Science (Laboratory Medicine) (Regional Placement) is not an eligible degree under the Reserved Sub-quota for the Doctor of Medicine at Flinders University. Graduates of this degree will only be considered under the Flinders Graduate Sub-quota.

Practical experience
This degree provides students with practical experience that prepares them for the workforce. Students will be required to undertake an entire year of full time Professional Practice component, equating to approximately 900 hours of laboratory placement allowing them to apply their learning in a full-time capacity to a diagnostic pathology laboratory environment. Prospective students who intend to apply for this course should carefully check that they meet the pre-clinical inherent requirements.
