It is a well integrated programme consisting of core paramedic topics that support clinical learning and health science topics that promote a broad understanding of modern health care delivery. Graduates have the skills, knowledge and attitudes to enable them to provide sophisticated emergency prehospital interventions and ensure seamless patient care from site to hospital.

It is important to note that while theoretical content delivered online can be accessed anywhere within the Northern Territory with internet coverage, the clinical skills and practical education will be delivered by practical workshop intensives held in Darwin. This will require students to spend up to 1 or 2 weeks in Darwin each semester.

This course is only available to applicants eligible under the remote and outer regional sub quota, Indigenous sub quota and/or the St John Ambulance Australia (NT) sub quota. All other applicants should refer to the Bachelor of Paramedicine (SATAC code: 244971).

Practical experience

To consolidate your clinical and theoretical understanding in real-life situations, you will perform 300 hours of emergency ambulance placements where you reside in Darwin, Alice Springs and Katherine, with arrangements if you live in Nhulunbuy, Tennant Creek or remote communities organised on an individual basis.

To maintain industry relevance, the degree actively collaborates with the South Australian Ambulance Service (SAAS), Ambulance Victoria (AV) and St John NT and relies heavily on input from practising, experienced paramedics.

Your career

This degree is accredited by the Paramedicine Board of Australia, in accordance with the 2020 accreditation standards for paramedicine as stipulated by the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law, for registration as a paramedic in Australia. Paramedicine graduates may also qualify for employment with ambulance services in international jurisdictions such as the United Kingdom and United States of America after completing relevant bridging and registration requirements.
