Bachelor of Paramedicine (Regional External Program)

The Bachelor of Paramedicine (Regional External Program) will allow regional students from South Australia to undertake the Paramedicine degree without needing to relocate to Adelaide. You will be able to perform your coursework online and attend the Bedford Park campus for compulsory practical workshop intensives and clinical exams to meet the practical learning requirements. This degree is an Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) approved program for professional registration as a Paramedic under the National Law.

The degree aims to provide a broad-based education covering the knowledge and skills required for paramedic practice, along with the political, administrative, social, epidemiological Legal environment of the Australian health care system. It also aims to encourage an appreciation of global trends in pre-hospital care through comparative investigations of paramedic and emergency medical technician practices worldwide, as well as foster critical thinking and resourcefulness through problem-based learning and clinical simulations, ensuring graduates are job-ready and capable of analysing and questioning current practices.

This degree is for applicants seeking a career as a Paramedic in regional South Australia. Key elements of the program include:

• Studying online during the semester

• Compulsory attendance at practical workshop intensives held at the Flinders University Bedford Park campus during mid-semester breaks (generally one week in April and September) throughout the degree. Noting two weeks attendance will be required in second semester 1st year (September) and all attendance in Adelaide will be at the students own cost

• Compulsory attendance at practical examinations held at the Flinders University Bedford Park campus at the end of each semester (up to one week in June and November) throughout the degree

• Performing clinical placements with SA Ambulance Service regional teams at nominated located locations in regional South Australia. Core locations include the Murray/Mallee, Mid North/Yorke Peninsula, Limestone Coast and Pt Lincoln

Since this course is only available to applicants eligible under the remote and outer regional subquota who currently reside in a remote or regional area, all other applicants should refer to the Bachelor of Paramedicine (SATAC code 244971).

Practical experience

To consolidate clinical and theoretical understanding in real-life situations, students will perform more than 300 hours of emergency ambulance placements over the duration of the degree with South Australian Ambulance Service (SAAS).

Equal Consideration

Equal consideration is a central principle of the admissions process. Equal consideration means that all applicants who have the same selection rank for a degree (or a subquota within a degree) are treated equally i.e. either all or none will be entitled to an offer, provided application deadlines and other application requirements are met by the set deadline.

Applicants who lodge an application by the relevant closing date and comply with all the application requirements, including having all grades/results by the required deadline, will be guaranteed equal consideration in the selection process. If however, an application is lodged late or does not comply with all the application requirements, including having all grades/results by the required deadline, they will not be guaranteed equal consideration.

Applicants who have applied on time but shuffle this preference after the Change of Preference deadline will not be guaranteed equal consideration. Applicants who have applied on time will be required to have all pending or missing grades and/or adjustment factors finalised no later than 31 December 2026 to be guaranteed equal consideration.

Applicants are advised that should they receive an offer for a place in this degree, they will be required to enrol in topics by the enrolment deadline stated in the letter of offer from SATAC. If they do not enrol via the Flinders University Student System by the specified date and maintain enrolment, their offer in the degree will be forfeit. Applicants who receive an offer for a place in this degree should also note that if they subsequently receive an offer to a higher preference, their offer will be deemed superseded and will be forfeited.
