Students will explore a range of approaches that authors take to developing and refining a sustainable creative writing practice, discuss avenues for generating original ideas and problem-solving during the writing and editing process, and develop an understanding how the writing and publishing industry works. Students read and discuss a series of classic and contemporary works of creative writing, and learn to exchange considered interpretations with their peers as well as developing critical analysis skills to apply to their own writing and the work of other writers. The subject takes a scaffolded approach to introducing key creative writing skills and techniques, which students are then invited to apply across a range of different forms and styles of writing, drawing on themes and ideas that are relevant to their own interests.
