Through the lens of historical literacy, this unit examines the meanings, structures, methodologies, and interpretive frameworks of historical thinking, as well as the relationship between history and the public sphere. The Bachelor of History (OUA) Capstone provides students with the opportunity to plan, design, and undertake a project that leverages the skills, methods, and knowledge they have developed throughout their degree. Drawing on knowledge and content from across their studies, students work individually and collectively to frame a research question from primary sources, archives and/ or material objects. They will then investigate this research question, applying historical and archaeological skills and approaches to answer it. The unit enables students to understand and articulate how their historical literacy is an important attribute of their employability. By the end of the unit, students will have produced a substantial piece of written work, demonstrating their readiness for postgraduate study or professional pathways that require analytical, research, and communication skills.
