However, there are also ‘Asian’ understandings deriving from long-existing interactions, for example, how Japanese people see China as a nation and ordinary Chinese people, and vice versa. You will critically examine different aspects of the two societies from pre-modern to modern times, including religions, modernity governance, social relations, ‘culture’ and engagement with the outside world. This subject includes live sessions with the expectation of student attendance and participation.
