The principal aim of this subject is to identify the existing interpersonal skills of students. In addition, it provides an opportunity to develop and practice these skills which are essential when working in health settings. Given that the subject adopts a skills-based orientation, students will be required to attend one weekly 2-hour workshop (either online or face-to-face, depending on subject instance enrolment) which will provide the opportunity to practice effective communication styles, appreciate contextual considerations (e.g., culture), and develop an understanding of the application of interpersonal communication skills in a range of settings (e.g., therapeutic, social, and public health).
