It aims to expose students to, and familiarise them with, corporate sector financial management by examining the main issues faced by financial managers of public companies, both in Australia and around the world. In addition, students will explore innovations in financial technology and environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues; and gain insights how corporate financial decision making can contribute to meeting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Students are expected to perform hands-on analysis and build Excel spreadsheet models to assist with analysis. The subject also aims to help students develop oral and written communication skills through individual and/or group assignments, presentations and interviews. Topics covered are: advanced capital budgeting under uncertainty (developing what was introduced in BAN23 Introduction to Finance Principles); market imperfections and signalling; agency theory; capital markets and sources of funds; capital structure; dividend policy; and the market for corporate control and corporate governance.
