Notions of evidence, fact, truth and what constitutes these are increasingly contested. Democracies around the world are also confronted with a deep-seated crisis as "fake news", "alternative facts" and "misinformation" are promulgated in political and public spheres. Students will explore how Indigenous peoples and cultures, and those of the Global South are now challenging the legitimacy of traditional western epistemology and its hegemony as the purveyor of truth in the 21st Century. Students will consider ways educators can better prepare students for life in society and the 'realities' of a world beset with complex interrelated environmental, economic, social, and political challenges in a post-truth world.
