About this subject
This subject was previously known as EDC235 Teaching Language, Literacy and Literature in Junior Primary . This subject is about teaching English in the Primary years. The focus of this subject is on pre-service teachers developing an in-depth understanding of teaching children to read and write. Teaching reading and writing will be situated in the context of understanding different perspectives and theories about how children become literate. This subject will prepare pre-service teachers with knowledge of the multiple components to inform the comprehensive identification of children’s skills as readers and writers at various stages of their development. In addition, the subject will provide pre-service teachers with the basis for creating rich learning experiences for children.
