In this subject, you will explore Australia's geological origins; Indigenous resource management and connection to Country; competing ideas of land use among early settlers; and how various forms of extraction changed the environment. Together, we will investigate how the Australian environment shaped humans in turn. Students will study the Australian continent as part of a global environment, by understanding how settlement was an artefact of colonialism and Empire. We will discover the impact of environmental thinking on Australia and its participation in the global environmental movement. You will assess the methods of environmental history in understanding Australia's changing environment in the context of calls for a sustainable future.
