You will achieve practice competencies and reinforce professional discipline knowledge. You will undertake key functions on placement to gain understanding of the management, informatics, data analysis, and clinical classificatory roles of hospital health information managers. Prior to placement, you are introduced to the functional components of a Health Information Service and the responsibilities of Health Information Managers in relation to the management of health records, building on the knowledge gained in HIM1003 and developing skills in a related health business communication genre. This subject includes synchronous sessions held during business hours, this means that you will attend sessions each week simultaneously with your facilitator and classmates. This subject is recommended for second-year undergraduate students who have completed all first-year subjects in the Bachelor of Health Information Management. Hospital on-site placements are a core requirement for all students regardless of the instance (blended or online) in which you are enrolled. To meet professional competency requirements students must pass both the professional placement and academic components of the subject.
