You will learn to read hiragana and katakana syllabic scripts as well as approximately 30 kanji characters. You will also be introduced to Japanese culture. Culture is embedded throughout language, so learning another language develops your intercultural communication skills, preparing you to be responsive and agile in varied situations. Those who have prior learning of Japanese should contact the Japanese Program coordinator for a placement test ([email protected]). You may be asked to move to another level by the subject coordinator prior to the university census date (usually in week 3 or 4). This is a studyflex subject, offered for both face-to-face and online students. The lecture is a pre-recorded video, available to watch each week, uploaded to LMS. Face-to-face students attend tutorials on campus, while online students attend live, online tutorials that are not recorded.
