This subject is for beginners and aims to establish elementary communicative competence in Japanese. You will learn basic aural and oral skills in Japanese (including how to introduce yourself, talk about your daily activities, and use fundamental forms of verbs, adjectives and particles. You will also develop basic skills in reading and writing in Japanese (all hiragana and katakana, and elementary-level kanji). In this subject you will gain an awareness about some aspects of Japanese society and culture relevant to intercultural communication and you will create language learning strategies that you can employ as you progress.
