We will also discuss further cultural phenomena (e.g. Cicero, Verres, oratory; the Roman system of government during the late Republic). This subject extends the skills developed in the first semester of Latin study. It brings students closer to reading Latin authors in the original language. It will sharpen students' philological and critical skills, which can usefully be applied in contexts other than classical study (e.g. in the study of other languages, of philosophy, literature and history).
