This subject introduces students to a critical understanding of the institutions and practices that are basic to the law in Australia. This subject provides a foundation for later courses, both in its content and its method of teaching, within the context of legal problem solving. Students will be encouraged to reflect critically on aspects of the legal system, which includes an introduction to the historical and philosophical sources of such elements as the adversarial system, the structure of courts and tribunals and the roles of lawyers and judges.
