About this subject
How should we understand those aspects of our conduct that are most personal and intimate and yet that, in many respects, leave the biggest impression on the lives of those closet to us? In other words, how do we understand the significance and complexity of our relations with others? In this unit, students examine whether ‘nature’ and ‘nurture’ condition our attitudes to people we know, people we don’t yet know, and people we may never meet. We explore complex problems that shape experiences of love, sex and friendship, including such vexed issues as pornography, prostitution, and online dating. This unit combines key historical and modern readings to investigate a range of philosophical themes that are raised by such questions. Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online.
