How do artists, museums and curators contribute to debates around globalisation and capitalism? Do we shape our identities through the images we make and consume? How are our ideas of sex, gender and race formed through looking or being looked at? Painting to Pixels interrogates the relationship between images and power in our increasingly visual world. You will examine a number of political, economic and ethical positions through case studies drawn from contemporary art and visual cultures. By developing skills in research, visual and textual analysis, and critical and creative thinking, you will formulate your own responses to vital questions facing our world. Across the learning materials and the weekly seminar, you will be encouraged to develop your own perspective on key issues in visual culture today and into the future. This is a level 3 subject.
