In this subject, we will explore the pressing social justice issues affecting contemporary Indigenous peoples and communities in Australia. We will examine a range of social, political, and legal matters to understand the multifaceted experiences of Indigenous communities today. We will critically reframe the relationship between Indigeneity and social problems, focusing on the historical and systemic roots of these challenges. This will help us engage with deeper, structural factors. We will also highlight the resilience and agency of Indigenous communities by examining their unique and innovative solutions to these challenges. From grassroots movements to policy advocacy, Indigenous-led initiatives are creating positive change. Throughout the subject , we will consider the complexities and nuances of these issues, engaging with diverse perspectives within Indigenous communities to ensure our discussions are inclusive and representative of their rich diversity. Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online.
