At a time when curriculum and pedagogy are becoming centred on policy objectives and accountability, this subject rebalances the focus. The subject focuses on situated knowledges and engages students in inquiry around who the learners are in terms of their identities, rights, needs, and contexts. The significance of context is addressed with a focus across diverse national and international contexts. Students will critically reflect on their existing perspectives about learner-centred pedagogies and will identify areas of focus relevant to their chosen context, which will guide students' learning throughout this subject. As students explore learner-centred pedagogies, students will also engage with place-based pedagogies, pedagogies of empathy and care, and pedagogies for social justice. Specific focus will be given to honouring diversity and exploring trauma-informed approaches in education.
