Students are responsible for ensuring they enrol correctly and clearance to commence the final placement will only be given to students who are undertaking the final subject/s of their degree. Students will need to contact Curtin at [email protected] requesting permission. Once we have confirmation that the student has satisfied the above requirements, then the restriction will be lifted. This final subject in the suite of professional experience subjects and includes both a theory and a practical component. For the first assessment, students will identify personal professional strengths and areas for improvement and/or growth through reflective practice, and develop strategies for professional development and teacher resilience. Students will then be provided with the opportunity to exercise professional skills, knowledge and attitudes in a school setting that demonstrate teacher competence and readiness. Students will undertake a five–week, full-time, continuous, block placement or internship under the supervision of a mentor teacher, and will be required to demonstrate meeting all the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers at the Graduate Career stage. During the internship, students will complete a theoretical assessment known as a Teaching Performance Assessment. Both the professional experience placement and the Teaching Performance Assessment must be undertaken together and passed in order to pass the subject.
