You will develop skills to participate competently in problem identification and framing, policy development, analysis, advocacy, implementation and evaluation. Key themes are: What is policy? How and when is policy formulated? Who is involved in policy and why? How is policy implemented and monitored? How is policy analysed, reviewed, evaluated and improved? Various theories and frameworks used to explain the policy making process will be introduced. Institutional and broader systems, and structures that influence health policy making will be examined. Particular attention will be given to investigating contemporary environments for policy making, including policy and political, commercial, and broader global environments, and the use of advocacy, evidence and policy instruments such as legislation and regulation. You engage with topical case studies that illustrate key policy issues throughout the subject.
