Mathematical models appear throughout the natural and social sciences. For example, growth of both cell populations and money can be modelled using exponential functions. Introducing you to the universality of mathematics, this subject emphasises your development of good mathematical intuition and technical problem solving. Studying this subject, you will learn how to develop, understand, and apply mathematical models. Topics include a review of functions and graphing, exponential, logarithmic, inverse, and trigonometric functions and equations, solving systems of linear equations using matrices. Intended to build on the NSW HSC Mathematics course (or equivalent) or UNE’s Introduction to Quantitative Skills, the subject provides you with an invaluable foundation for a wide range of science-based courses or for further study of calculus-based mathematics units.
