Among times and places studied are: ancient Rome; medieval Europe; eighteenth and nineteenth century China, Haiti and the United States; twentieth century Algeria and India; and the 1968 generation. Rebellions could spring from desperate poverty, oppression, the ambitions of a charismatic leader, religious and cultural ideas, or combinations of all of these factors. Students will learn about dramatic upheavals that continue to shape the world today.
