A student visa requires a full-time CRICOS-registered course, and single subjects have no CRICOS registration. If you’re studying in Australia on a student visa, you’ll need a full qualification instead.
See CRICOS-registered alternativesThis interdisciplinary subject enables better understanding of ourselves and of our relations to others in settler colonial Australia. We examine how gender identities are not simply separate from other identities; they are always situated in relation to other differences, such as race, class, sexuality or disability. Beginning with ways sex and race interact in the nation, the subject asks how people develop diverse forms of belonging within systems of social power, governance, fields of knowledge and public debates. We question taken for granted assumptions about identity formation so that differences can be better negotiated in professional and institutional contexts. Materials include readings, film clips, historical texts, personal stories, statistics, and advertisements. The subject entails a deep appreciation of how choices we make affect the natural, economic, social, political and cultural systems in which sex, gender and diversity becomes significant now and in the future. In doing so, we aim to promote social justice.
