About this subject
Get a great start to your study. In this subject, you are presented with knowledge and essential skills relevant to studying at a tertiary level. The subject guides you through a staged process from submission of a brief non-academic writing task, through to completion of a researched and referenced academic essay. Along the way, you learn how to develop your formal writing skills, read and interpret academic texts and use library and internet resources to research and support academic arguments. You also learn ways to organise your time and resources, approaches to assignment writing, how to relate reference material to assigned writing, protocols of in-text referencing (American Psychological Association (APA) Referencing Style/ Author-Date) and techniques for compiling an annotated bibliography. At the completion of this subject, you should be able to plan and manage your study, read and comprehend academic texts appropriate to undergraduate study, access and use a range of resources and recognise and apply academic conventions required for formal written assignments.
