Throughout the course, students read and listen to a range of medium-and-full-length authentic written texts and audio-visual media in Thai. Implicit meanings and contextual understanding are also emphasised. Using various resources in Thai, students identify and evaluate information for personal interests, class activities, and assignments. Students discuss, write and offer comparative perspectives on a broader range of topics such as current affairs, economy, politics, social inequality, soft power, Thailand in the context of ASEAN and the world, and Thailand-Australia relations. By the end of the subject, students gain a more nuanced understanding of the dynamic culture of Thailand and are able to converse on a range of topics with native speakers without strain from either party as well as make use of social and cultural understanding to engage at a deeper level in written and spoken communication.
