This subject enables you to study the region in a wide variety of contexts and introduce you to Asia Pacific's dynamic role in contemporary world politics. In Module 1, you will examine the region in a historic context and explore various theoretical approaches. Module 2 leads you through the key players in the region, including China, Japan, Taiwan, North Korea, South Korea, Southeast Asian states, US, Australia and New Zealand. You will also examine traditional security concerns, such as North Korea nuclear issues and the territorial disputes about the East and South China Sea. In Module 3, you will develop your understanding of non-traditional security issues in the Asia Pacific by examining the rise of nationalism and national identity, as well as recent developments of Indigenous rights and human security in the region. Throughout, you will hone your critical thinking, communication and analytical skills.
