The subject is designed to show how theory can illuminate pressing issues in world politics such as war, cooperation, exploitation, environmental degradation, women in politics and war, and global inequalities. The subject first introduces students to the history of the discipline of IR and to the great debates, including the latest on decolonising the discipline. It is then devoted to examining central claims and ideas that underpin the key theories of world politics, including Realist, Liberal, Constructivist, Marxist, Feminist, Postcolonial and Green Theory approaches.
