We will explore the deep connection that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have with the land, waters, and sky, and how this has been fostered throughout the millennia. This knowledge encompasses areas of knowledge such as medicine, engineering, ecology, astronomy and sociology. Students will broaden their understanding of Indigenous pedagogy and knowledge transfer, how both Western and Indigenous cultures can mutually benefit from utilising Indigenous science Knowledges, as well as investigating the ways in which students can do so regarding their own field of study. This subject will outline specific disciplines which have benefited from the integration of Indigenous Knowledges, and students will have the opportunity to hear from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders and knowledge holders, engage in practical exercises, and participate in field trips. Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online.
