About this subject
In a world of rapid change - media and technology, political and economic uncertainty, and future challenges of environmental, economic, and social sustainability - how do young people navigate the development of their identity and figure out who they are? In this subject, we examine sociological perspectives and theoretical frameworks relevant to young people and the way youth identities are shaped by social structures and forces. This involves the exploration of issues related to families, schooling, employment, health, wellbeing, and social care, with considerations for the intersectionality that characterises youth within diverse communities. You will develop the knowledge and skills to describe and explain contemporary youth identities and examine the implications for working with young people and the issues related to their development and care. Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online.
